1964 Mercury Comet (Black/Tan)

Price: US $4,500.00 SOLD OUT

This hard to find Mercury started its second life 2 years ago.  Engine was completely rebuilt, 7k miles driven.  (You can tell from the new paint on the block.)  Fordomatic transmission shifts when it's supposed to.  Steering is straight and tight.  Brakes are solid.  Performance is snapping for what was considered a compact car at the time.  The 200 six is long stroke and noted for its abundance of low end torque.  It was the work horse for the early Ford trucks, helping to make the F-150 a best seller.  Now this "small" chassis has become more of a full size car capable of sitting 6 comfortably.  Many parts are shared with the Falcon, making replacement parts readily available and inexpensive.  Mercury was placed in the mid-price market between Lincoln and Ford to compete with GM's Buick and Chrysler's Dodge. It has new seat covers and carpets.  Door panels were custom fabricated by an artist in the theme of a 50's Diner.  Owner became ill and never finished.  What it needs is a headliner.  What was done was done well.  I drove it.  It runs like a top.  Engine has good oil pressure.  It does not run hot or leak oil.  It starts, idles, accelerates, steers and brakes as it should, ..... effortlessly.  Mechanically it's near perfect.  You can take it cross country.   All lights work minus dome light.  Windows and doors work as well.  Trunk lock needs a long screw driver to open.  Original spare and bumper jack are in there on the factory mat.  No accident or body damage.  Rust is next to none, with one picture showing surface crack.  Ca. registration was current when renovation began in 2014.  This car has had a good life with many more good miles left.  Most of all, it's a fun car to drive with die-hard reliability and economy of a six.  You feel the road in your hands!  It's American auto manufacturing at its historic best, advanced after the War, and before quality problems of the 70's.   List your transport bid for 500 (or less) on uShip and wait for last minute available truck space.  Car will be in secured storage up to 30 days to the winning bidder.
